The Western Maryland Blues Fest held its very first event 21 years ago. We were lucky to be able to partner with them to create the graphics for the festival, as we have every year since. Since Blues Fest is right around the corner, we thought we’d take us all back to that very first poster. Back in the day, our office used to be frequented by three fantastic dogs: Casey, Bongo, and Bijou. All three were adopted as puppies by Icon employees, so we grew to call them the Icon Mascots. Their warmth, affection, devotion, and playfulness added so much to our creative atmosphere and lent such a positive energy to us all. Many years have passed, and we’re so sad to have said goodbye to Casey and Bongo. But we will always be ever so grateful for their companionship and care.

One of our most recent projects has involved working with the good people over at Shepherdstown Plumbing on their branding, vehicle graphics, and website. Shepherdstown University graphic design student, Yasmeen Alkordi, provided the final design for their service vans, along with assisting in their upcoming web design. The client requested a simple, clean design that was easy to read and instantly recognizable — she nailed it!

When it comes to writing content for your website, there are 2 main schools of thought seemingly at odds with one another. Many argue that you should focus on the people reading your content and forget about search engine optimization entirely. But others insist the goal ought to be to focus on search engine robots crawling your site through loading your content with keywords. We’re pleased to welcome Shepherd University senior, Yasmeen Alkordi, to our team as an intern this semester. Originally from Tampa, Florida, Yasmeen currently lives in Shepherdstown and will be graduating this year with a BA in Graphic Design. In the few weeks she’s already been with us, she’s been a great asset working with us on branding, ad designs, T-shirts, vehicle graphics, and more. As a painter and illustrator, her artistic eye and eagerness to learn puts her right at home among Team Icon.
